Professor Shi Jianbo is a well-known expert in nasal science and nose eye related disciplines both domestically and internationally, and is also one of the pioneers in clinical research of nasal endoscopic surgery in China.He studied under internationally renowned rhinologist Professor Xu Geng and has been dedicated to the research of nasal endoscopic surgery since 1991. Professor Shi has completed over 8000 surgeries in the fields of endoscopic sinus surgery, nose eye related surgery, and nasal skull base surgery. He has profound expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of refractory sinusitis, inverted papilloma of the nasal cavity, nasopharyngeal fibrovascular tumor, cerebrospinal fluid rhinorrhea, skull base tumors, optic nerve injury, orbital hypertension, chronic dacryocystitis, orbital tumors, and other diseases. Meanwhile, he has made significant contributions to the standardized diagnosis and treatment of chronic sinusitis.

 

In April 2024, Professor Jianbo Shi was appointed as the Regional Vice President of the International Society of Rhinology and was re elected as an Executive Member of the International Society of Rhinology Council. He also served as the main person in charge of the research project "Standardized Diagnosis and Treatment of Chronic Sinusitis/Nasal Polyp and Its Promotion Nationwide" in the Ministry of Health's public welfare industry research project "Early Detection, Standardized Diagnosis and Treatment, and Prevention and Control System Research and Promotion Application of Ear and Nose Major Diseases".

 

Professor Shi has made outstanding contributions in the epidemiological investigation, pathogenesis research, hormone sensitivity prediction, drug treatment, and surgical efficacy of chronic sinusitis, promoting the standardization and individualized treatment of chronic sinusitis in China. The standardized treatment plan for refractory sinusitis proposed by him, including early case screening, ethmoid sinus contouring and partial resection of the upper turbinate, postoperative hormone increment, and strengthened perioperative management, has significantly improved the treatment effect and has been widely applied in China.In addition, Professor Shi was the first in China to carry out frontal sinus surgery and related research. He proposed the treatment of chronic frontal antral inflammation, frontal sinus tumors, and frontal sinus cerebrospinal fluid rhinorrhea by enlarging the nasal sinus airway through nasal endoscopy and opening the frontal sinus, which has been widely recognized by peers nationwide. He also collaborated with Professor Xu Geng to conduct a series of studies on traumatic optic nerve injury, proposing standardized endoscopic optic nerve decompression surgery, indications, efficacy evaluation, and related basic research. These achievements have been effectively promoted nationwide.

 

Professor Shi Jianbo's research achievements are also remarkable. He has undertaken 43 research projects, including 1 special research project funded by the Ministry of Health and 6 projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, with a total funding of over 11 million yuan. He has published over 130 papers in important academic journals both domestically and internationally, including top journals in the fields of otolaryngology and allergy science such as Allergy and Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology. In addition, Professor Shi is also committed to the popularization and promotion of nasal endoscopic surgery technology, and has participated in more than 50 courses on minimally invasive nasal endoscopic surgery, with students spread throughout China.
